Quell was founded in March 2019 in partnership with six prominent immunological experts from King’s College London, University College London, and Hannover Medical School, and is led by Iain McGill, a leading pharmaceutical executive with extensive relevant experience, having spent most of his 25 years in the industry in immunology, including the areas of solid organ and cell transplantation. The Company was founded with initial series A financing, led by Syncona Ltd who committed £34M with a further £1M contributed by UCL Technology Fund.

 

THE ROLE

Research Associate – Discovery  

Quell is looking for Research Associate who will work within a dynamic R&D group performing various immune based assays. Research Associate will also perform various experiments for the immune monitoring of the clinical trial for the product and help understand the product under supervision of the Group Leader. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a talented and motivated scientist to contribute to a growing pipeline of assets in an exciting and highly dynamic environment focused on developing cutting-edge cellular therapies.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out flow cytometry assays to improve understanding of Tregs
  • Assist in development and testing of new assays
  • Provide support within the translational group
  • Day-to-day laboratory operations to ensure smooth running of the lab teams
  • Author experiment write-ups and reports
  • Supervise staff as necessary
  • Maintain compliant process documentation

 

EXPERIENCE WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Familiarity with a range of immunological cell-based techniques and tests
  • Experience of mammalian cell culture and ideally human immune cell culture
  • Excellent time and project management skills aligned with an ability to prioritise activities
  • Solid understanding of cell biology and immunology
  • Proven commitment to high quality work and maintenance of high standards
  • Contribute to a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, urgency, patient centricity and continuous improvement
  • Experience of mammalian cell culture and ideally human immune cell culture
  • Solid understanding of T cell biology and immunology
  • Ability to carry out molecular and cell-based assays to improve the understanding of engineered Tregs and their impact in preclinical in vitro and in vivo models
  • Assist in the development of novel assays and methods to investigate engineered Treg cell function
  • Assist in the development and testing of novel and relevant immune regulatory assays/models

 

ESENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to present results clearly and logically, working co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Good attention to detail and record keeping
  • Ability to efficiently identify and implement solutions (i.e., Improve processes)
  • Familiarity with a range of immunological cell-based techniques and tests including Flow Cytometry, ELISA
  • MSc or BSc in Molecular Biology or related subject
